Facility management and real estate are no longer merely support functions: with digital governance services, they become strategic levers for optimising services, streamlining processes and reinvesting the value generated. This was the central theme of the “Security, Sustainability & Building Management” event, organised by OSSIF and Securindex, which took place at the BNL BNP Paribas Head Office in Rome.
The meeting brought together asset owners, service providers and institutional representatives to discuss artificial intelligence (AI), security and the enhancement of real estate assets.
“Today, real estate is a core cost for banks. With digital governance, we can optimise services, streamline processes and reinvest the value,” said Daniele Di Fausto, Global CEO of eFM, one of the event’s key speakers. Di Fausto analysed insourcing and outsourcing models in facility management, proposing an intermediate model: “Helping partners focus on their core business and suppliers to specialise. Our approach integrates strategic, tactical and operational levels, collecting and standardising data from different systems to support real-time decision-making, linking services provided with results achieved.”
A transformation confirmed by industry leaders. Elena Magnani, Real Estate Director at BNL BNP Paribas, emphasised: “Facility management is evolving from an operational function into a strategic lever, where security, technological innovation and the quality of spaces converge”.
Marco Iaconis, OSSIF Coordinator, emphasised the ecosystem: “It is essential to pool data, information and best practices to enhance the value of real estate assets”.
Di Fausto added: “We need a paradigm shift beyond individual business logic, towards an ecosystemic vision. The first step is to work together on protocols and terminology to share information”.
This statement forms the basis for eFM’s role as a facilitator: “We want to facilitate collaboration between clients, providers and start-ups, by integrating expertise, data and innovation,” explains Di Fausto. At EmTech 2026, the launch of the PlaceTech Global Alliance: an alliance to define shared standards and map emerging technologies, transforming real estate from an asset-based to an experience-based model.
This event marks a turning point: facility management generates efficiency and decision-making value. With digital governance and AI, organisations – banks in particular – can convert property costs into strategic opportunities.
